The Palace

PictureTom ascending "The Scepter"
The Scepter: (5.10a)
-This is one of the most rewarding routes in the canyon. The Scepter's unique shape truly is a thing of beauty and is not to be passed up. The climb itself holds many challenges including some small crack handholds, and reachy crimps. If your forearms get tired easily, do this climb first and work every move. After clipping 8 bolts, you reach the precariously placed chains. Congratulations! Now sit back, and enjoy the view.

-To get to this climb, follow the trail through the canyon as it crosses over the small river (leads into Poudre) and continues to the right. It then passes the Mieshaft and Chamber walls and curves up and to the left. It will lead you to a hard to miss freestanding spire overlooking the canyon.

Note: Use bolts placed on the right face around the side of The Scepter to clip if needed. These are not part of the 8 bolts on the front face, but provide a great place to rest or rappel from. Also make sure to climb atop The Scepter to reap its' full benefits.

Directions: Crystal Wall and The Palace are located exactly 15 miles from Ted's Place. So set your odometer, head west, and keep an eye out for the tunnel because the pull off parking is a few hundred yards after it on the right.
